COST ADVANTAGES OF SAMPLE HOURLY RETAINED SEARCH
VP Human Resources: Salary, $150,000 base. Traditional retained search firm charge: 33% plus estimated bonus. Minimum cost to conduct search on base salary only: $49,500. Contingency firm at 25%: $37,500. Our firm charges apx. $10,000. SAVINGS: $39,500 and $27,500.
If your company conducts five middle management searches at $70,000 each, equaling $350,000 in salaries in one year, you would pay out $115,000 in search fees to a traditional retained search firm (who most likely will not conduct face-to-face interviews at this level), $87,500 to a contingency firm, or, $35,000 to $50,000 to our firm. The higher the level of position, the more money you would save.

Retained Search (traditional)
Our firm will perform a traditional retained search on your behalf at a charge of 25% of the annual starting salary. We do not charge for anticipated bonus amounts. There is a six month guarantee period for retained placements. Once the search is accepted, one-third of the first bill is due. The second would be due at the end of the second month. The third on the day of hire.
We define retained as follows: Our client will provide us with a detailed position description, annual reports, list of desired targeted competitor companies, list of any activities associated with the search previously whether it be internal or external, a timeline, and contact information for the executives involved in the interviewing process. Once received, our firm will review the description in detail with our client's designated managers. We will then identify and make a list of additional competitor companies if necessary, will identify names of potential candidates through a combination of internet research, cold calling and networking/sourcing. We will then contact the appropriate prospects utilizing a variety of methods and recruit or source those targeted individuals. Once interest is generated, we will request a resume from the potential candidate and will then telephone screen/interview those who most closely meet our clients qualifications. Once telephone screened, that individual is then passed along to our client. At this time, we do not conduct face-to-face interviews.
HOURLY RETAINED SEARCH - (Our specialty)
Our client's also have the option of performing an "hourly retained search" at the current charge of $70 per hour. We will perform all of the activities associated with a traditional retained search but on an hourly basis. An average search assignment takes 80-120 hours to complete successfully.
